AI, Media Literacy, and Children’s Imagination in Terneuzen

This past week was dedicated to Media Literacy – a nationwide campaign in the Netherlands that helps children, young people, and adults become more aware of the opportunities and challenges of the digital world. We had the honor of closing this special week at the library in Terneuzen, right in the heart of Zeeuws-Vlaanderen.

📚 Children’s Books and AI: Bringing Imagination to Life

During our session, the focus was on artificial intelligence and how this technology can bring stories and characters to life. Children experienced how the books they read, the figures they admire, and even their own drawings could take on a new dimension through AI. It was inspiring to see curiosity and creativity come together when technology supports imagination.

🎤 Interview on the Impact of AI

As an added highlight, we were invited to take part in an interview for a program exploring how AI is influencing education and other sectors. This gave us the chance not only to showcase what AI can mean for children, but also to reflect more broadly on the societal impact of this technology.

🌍 Reflection

What made this experience so special was the combination of local engagement with a globally relevant theme. In Terneuzen, Zeeuws-Vlaanderen, it became clear that AI is not something abstract, but a technology that can directly contribute to the development of children and young people. It shows that media literacy is not only about critically navigating digital information, but also about embracing new possibilities.
